After turning on my pc with Vista home premium, I connect to my wireless
network and provide the security key, I click the save network and start
automatically button, and then I am connected.
Ok, after my pc hibernates or I restart the pc, I have to again re-connect
to my wireless network and re-enter security key each time. Why do I have to
do this each and every time? I clicked the save network button and start this
connection button. I did not have to do this with XP, it would automatically
connect to my wireless network each time.

Any help, please

manage wieless networks (on the left)
right click the network and select properties, click connect
automatically (and if you aren't broadcasting the SSID, click to

Hi,

I have the same problem with my friends network & from what i can see, the
check box is already ticked. From what i can see, when i go to hte security
tab on my wireless settings, the wep drops to 8 digits rather than the 10 it
needs... I have a BT home hub i've been trying to set up, but it keeps asking
for the code every time i re-start the machine.

Please help Barb! I know u can do it!!

This is whats weird, everyone says wep is no good, but it's better than
nothing right? It won't allow WPA or WPA2, but why is wep still available if
it's not good? Forget the above questions, are there problems with WEP &
Vista as i've read on a few forums that Vista is having problems.

I advised all my friends and family that if they have only WEP
support that they should replace their devices. Lots of bored
kiddies consider it fun and challenging to break into WEP networks
and see what they can steal off unprotected machines or machines
with the guest account enabled, etc.

WEP has been around a long time and I expect that eventually it will
go away, but there is a huge amount of old hardware out there. From
the sounds of your problem, it could be an issue of 64 versus 128
bit WEP.

each problem is different. as I said:

From
the sounds of your problem, it could be an issue of 64 versus 128
bit WEP.

it could be something else. but it isn't really that there is a
basic overall problem with Vista and wireless.

You have not posted any information on your friends wireless
hardware. or what the WEP setting is - HEX? ASCII? Open? Shared? 64
vs 128?

Brand and model of hardware, firmware version or what wireless card
you are using and whether it is a Vista supplied driver or something
else.

bottom line, WEP is not safe. if you elect to use it, be aware of
the risks.
