Hi there,

At our University we can make use of our laptops everywhere by installing a
certificated that is mailed to us student.
This certificate installes/import perfectly withour giving any error.
There after we have to manually create a network profile (Network name,
802.1x tyoe, WEP encryption type ect ect). All goes well up to when I'm in
this network properties under the Security tab where I have to choose a
network authentication method (for Smart Card or other certification). After
Clicking on Settings I have to sellect the certificate that was installed
(under Trusted Root Certification Authorities) but it does not show up. It's
just not there. :S

The guys from the service desk here at the University couldn't help me
niether.
I have a Vista Home Premium edition, and they say that with the Business
edition that they dont have thsi problem and that I should upgrade.
I'm a student, all my capital just whent to this laptop :S:S.

How did you install the certificate? In Vista you may have to specify where
to install the certificate. How to do this differs with how you are
installing the certificate.

Thanks for your quick response.

The certificate will autorun after double click.
1 - "Welcome to the Certificate Import Wizard" click Next
2 - File Import - File name: path\VlanWireless2007.P12 - Click Next
3 - Password - Only the "Include all extended properties" is selected -
Click Next
4 * A - Certificate Store - "Automatically select the certificate store
based on the type of cerificate" is selected as requested by the University
given manual.
4 * B - But I also have tryed "Place all certificates in the following
store" and I recieved a error message. The steps where the following.
* B - Clicked on Browse
* B Select Certificate Store - I checked "Show Physical Stores" then double
clicked on "Trusted Root Certification Authotities" and selected "Smart Card"
hitted "OK". (Will go back on Certificate Store) and clicked Next.
* B Completing the Certificate Import Wizard - Clicked Finnish
* B A small window pop open with the following text
" The import failed because the store was read-only, the store was full, or
the store did not open correctly."

* A But if I follow the directions given and selected "automaticaly select
the certificate store ......." at the end I will recieve the message reading
"The Import was successful." But still the CA will not appear in "Trusted
Root Certification Authorities"

Can I foward the PDF file that guide us through the installing process to
you? So you can have a better view of the steps are that we are taking. I can
even send the Certificate (.P12 file).

How did you install the certificate? In Vista you may have to specify where
to install the certificate. How to do this differs with how you are
installing the certificate.

Those instructions are for XP. In Vista:

In the Start Search box type certmgr.msc.

In the list above right click on it and pick Run as administrator

Right click on Trusted Publishers, click on all tasks then Import.

Click on Next, then Browse.

Browse to the folder with the certificate in it, click on it, then click on
Open.

Click on Next.

Make sure Place all certificates in the following store is selected.

Click on Browse.

Put a tick in Show physical stores.

Expand Trusted Publishers, pick Local Computer, then OK.

Click on Next, then Finish

You're welcome. Glad it worked. Depending on how the certificate was issued
that method may not always work. FWIW they are wrong about the Business
Edition. You would have had the same problem. The reason for the change is
because of security.

If you can please let them know the proper procedure to import the
certificate in Vista.

Hi,
I have an issue in the same background. I signed my active X with a
fake certificate and when installed on XP certificate goes to Trusted
Root Certification Store *automatically *but when try to install on
Vista Ultimate certificate goes to in Intermediate Trusted Certificate
store. And this make my AX install on vista.

How a certifiacte goes to Trusted Root Certification Store automatcally
in Vista as it in XP?
