Have you checked for updates to your iTunes application, have you checked
for updated drivers for your iTunes device.

It could well be recognizing your iPod but that doesn't mean there aren't
updated drivers for it that might resolve an issue such as you describe.

The next thing to check would be to make sure you have the latest Vista
compatible drivers for your graphics card and soundcard and make sure the
drivers support all functions of your card and not simply the basic
functions. Also, be sure to check for any disclaimers at the driver
download site as the drivers may now support all functions but there may
still be exceptions that might be critical and cause the problem you are
experiencing.

My computer was acting strange and freezing after downloading Lime Wire.
I was told by HP that I need a new hard drive...computer was only 4
months old! All of my programs, including iTunes (APPCRASH), had error
messages that stated they could not be opened. I then received a
message that my computer was set at the year 2081! I don't know how
this happened, but after I fixed it to be the current year...all of my
problems were solved. I now can access all of my programs. Hope this
works for you all.

Uninstall iTunes, sell your iPod.

Or, uninstall iTunes, download the most recent release from Apple and
install it.

Or, contact Apple support, who will probably just tell you to do what I just
did (the second option, not the first g).
