Default DVD drive issues after Vista conversion

It seems like I had a problem that many other did when i upgraded from XP to
Vista Home Premium, my DVD burner no longer worked (error code 39). To fix
this I updated the regestry via the regedit command, deleting the lower and
upper filters.
Well, that seems to work for the most part. Now my computer recognizes the
Drive and I can drag and drop files onto the drive to burn them. However the
problem comes when I try to use the Windows DVD Maker. I add a WMV file,
click next and then it just says that Windows DVD Maker has stopped
working... Any suggestions of what I need to do to get it working. What
happens if I try uninstalling it? will my computer recognize it the next time
i reboot?

run4fun,

The condition you have can be caused by more than one possibility. Roxio
and/or Nero have been known to cause this problem in some computers. Why
this is I don't know. If you have either of these applications installed,
try uninstalling it to see whether that solves the problem. If it does, then
you likely will be looking for a replacement burning application.

If that's the case, here are three other burning programs you can
check Out:

http://www.imgburn.com/

http://www.deepburner.com/

http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/hom...ssion_langid=2

I found those burners on another forum where people there say these all work
well
with Vista. Each burner has a free version and a pay version. I've not
tried
any of them. Just something to try. You can reinstall your burner program
if you find that removing it had no effect in fixing your situation.

I do have Roxio installed on my computer. If I uninstall it, and this isn't
the problem, how can I get it back? (It was one of the software packages
that came on the computer.) I would hate to uninstall it, and then find that
it still doesn't work. Thanks.

run4fun,

The vendor of your computer should be able to tell you how to get Roxio back
after you uninstall it. You can always go with one of the alternatives.
