Dear All
I have installed both XP and Vista in a PC. In my home network, I can log in my NAS without any problem with XP. However, when I turn to use Vista, it always prompt me to key in username and password, and stated that they are wrong. Anybody can help ? Thanks a lot. |

Vista uses NTLMv2 authentication by default. This is not compatible with the
version of Samba that many low cost NAS devices use. You can try lowering the authentication level for Vista. This works with some NAS devices but not all. If it still doesn't work the only solution is a firmware upgrade from the NAS manufacturer. http://www.jimmah.com/vista/Networking/ntlm.aspx http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tec...SecurityWatch/ -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca "Bill Gates" wrote in message ... Yep, welcome to the club. I have two NAS boxes that have been rendered obsolete
by Vista, and I'm not a happy camper. I'm typing this on an XP box, since I can't really move over to the Vista machine without a solution to access my two NAS backup boxes. Since neither have a firmware upgrade available, I'm pretty much stuck unless I replace both of them. I'm pretty bummed out that Vista didn't have some sort of "fallback" to allow operation in such environments. This seems a bit short-sighted on Microsoft's part. I think the Vista-centric view went a bit too far, you need to have a transition path. On Tue, 12 Jun 2007 22:05:49 +0800, "Bill Gates" wrote: Dear All I have installed both XP and Vista in a PC.
