Hi, first you might want to provide more information such as how are the
computers connected together, are they in the same workgroup, same subnet?
Are you able to ping the Vista computers from the XP machines?

the vista computers can do everything with the XP computers but the XP
computers cant see the vista ones at all can ping the vista, yet they are all
on the same network and same workgroup. Is it some sort of new IPv's or is
there something different between the 2 Windows?

Chuck has got a very comprehensive guide on setting up a Vista-XP network
here @
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html

Do give it a shot.

Default Networking XP and Vista

I've been trying to get my XP pro machine and Vista notebook to recognize
each other in a workgroup. Both machines have the same workgroup names. My
wife's notebook can network just fine to the XP machine. I can ping each
machine from the other. I have turned of all third party firewall and windows
firewalls. Any suggestions?

Cheers!

I sympathize. Setting up a simple ethernet connection between two machines
was really awkward. I went round and round setting and resetting all the
options, then suddenly I saw the peer machine icon pop up in the list of
discovered hosts. Bizarre! Infuriatiating!

I don't know what I did to make it work. I ran the set up home network
wizard on my XP machine several times. Sometimes that would result in the
Vista machine being recognized, sometimes not.

You might try mucking about with the WINS configuration of the TCP/IP
adapter. By default it is supposed to kick in when required, but I have seen
various posts suggesting it needs to be set explicitly.

In my time I have set up and managed complicated global networks, yet
setting up a simple one-to-one workgroup with a single ethernet crossover
cable was pound for pound a much greater challenge.

Try checking the firewall on the Vista boxes...Vista runs with greater
default security settings, so that may explain why they're hard to find.
