I have two desktops and a laptop. One desktop is running XP Pro; The other
is running 2000 Server. I do not have AD running on the server at the moment. My new laptop is running Vista Home, with plans to upgrade to Ultimate (as soon as I get bugs worked out with laptop manufacturer). All three are connected via a Wireless Router. My laptop is able to see shared folders and printers on the XP Desktop, but cannot even see the 2000 Server. I try to ping by name and it does not know the name. I can ping by IP Address and am able to see shared folders. The XP Desktop has no problem seeing the 2000 Server by name. Is there something I can do to see by name? I do not want to manually configure a host address on the laptop. The server is my mail, web (website need major overhaul), ftp, and print servers. Any ideas? Dave |

Dave Dave, Check NetBT and all personal firewalls, to start. http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/0...ing-using.html How is the laptop "seeing" the XP computer? Network Neighbourhood? Or Network Map? http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html Take a look at the logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!): http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...#AskingForHelp -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
