Default Wireless + cable

I have a DLink modem router, have my desktop connected to it via the network
cable (although my PC has wireless card) and our laptop receives broadband
perfectly via wireless.
I want to use the cable on the desktop (because it runs considerably faster
on by service than does the "wireless".
My problem is that, after setup , in which the Desktop runs beautifully at
network cable speed, the Desktop soon reverts to the wireless signal.
I've tried removing the antenna from the desktop, but the system still runs
"wireless", but, of course, at very low speed and low signal strength.
I'm sure there's a simple answer... Can anyone help, please?

Why not disable the wireless card on the desktop computer ?

Additionally if the desktop cable(ethernet) and wireless are functioning the router is also dispensing an address to the desktop unit. If you don't wish to disable the wireless adapter on the desktop, you may have to modify the router settings to only dispense address or filter allow mac address of the desktop ethernet(lan)adapter.
