I had an existing LAN with MCE & XP Pro, a wireless laptop and a wireless
printer on it. Just added my new Vista Biz box. Had internet immediately. Couldn't get the XP & Vista boxes to see each other. Read a bunch, downloaded http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70582 onto the XP machines and voila... Vista could now SEE them. However, for the life of me I couldn't get the files shared. Feeling stupid I recruited a fellow in our condo who works at Microsoft. He spent quite a couple of hours here, some of it scratching his head. First we figured out my printer had a static IP that was conflicting with the Vista box. Once that was fixed we appeared to be golden. We went in and installed the printer and went back and we'd lost the icons in network again (mapping showed all the connections the whole time). What he figured out, using ip config and pings, etc, was that the IPs display the other computers fine. So I'm now happy to be able to grab files off my old computer. However we never got the icons to display in the network. I've simply remapped them so they show up as I wish in Computer. I'm just sharing, I don't have a question. Sheila |
