Default Network Discovery issue

setting up a newly wiped dell inspiron...vista ultimate is installed...when
trying to enable network discovery, the oddest thing happens - i choose "on",
then hit "apply" at which point i'm prompted for permission - click
"continue" and after a second i'm returned back to the Network and Sharing
center with Network Discovery back to "off"...tried this about a dozen times,
and yes, i'm logged in as the admin for this machine...

funny part is that for all the options under "sharing and discovery" i can
only change the "password protected sharing" back and forth from "off" to
"on" and vice versa...

this is starting to drive me crazy as i can't see any networks nor enable my
lan port without finding a way to turn on network discovery...

help please

Trying going into the network and sharing centre.
Right underneath the basic network mapping. there will be the option to
customize.

Ensure that you're setup as a private network and not public.

Default Network Discovery issue

Are you using any firewall software other than the one included with Vista?
