Lan Connection Number

Hi,

I have seen this peculiar thing, wherein the Lan Connection Number changes
everytime i restart my vista desktop. initially the LAN number used to show
1. every restart the number increments by 1. it has reached 7. can anyone
tell as to why this happens?
