Are you using ICS? Post the results of ipconfig /all on both ICS host and client.

when i re ran the XP network set up, it stated it was running on ics.
Apart from that i do not know what ics is.
I would not know where to produce an ip config command.

And further info would be cool. Thanks.

The IP 169.254.x.x could be the issue.

Default Vista to XP wired network hair pulling

i have set up on the vista desktop(connect to internet) the ip 169.254.156.1
as a static ip address, under the IPV 4 TCP/IPv4.
On the lap top xp home, i set up a static ip address under the TCP/IP-
internet protocol... 169.254.156.4

Network connects, shares files , folder and printers, but i still cannot
connect to the internet from the xp lap top.
I have further ensured, that on the LAN connect on VISTA, under sharing that
ics is set. And that, the IE 7 on xp lappy, is set to NEVER dial up a
connection.
I have set both lan connections as- DEFAULT on NETBIOS SETTING.
SHOULD the DNS SEVER have a specific ip?

Any further info would be gratfully received.
Thanks,
e

Default Vista to XP wired network hair pulling

I have previously set up peer to peer networks from 98 to 95, xp to 98se, and
xp home lap top to xp home desktop.
I bought VISTA ultimate thinking ULTIMATE meant that it would be able to do
everything. The point that i cannot find any answers on this forum to solve
the peer to peer internet connection sharing problems, even though VISTA
ULTIMATE is supposed to have INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING makes me conclude
that it does not work.
Can someone at least tell me that ICS does not actually work? or that you
are working on the resolution? or that i have configured something
incorrectly?
Please?

Thanks,
e
