Any suggestions will be helpful. I have installed and re-installed the
lastest driver and applications for my X-Fi sound card. I have noticed a
random popping sound and no sound at all. Is their a command-line parameter
or some way edit a file(s) to correct this?

I have the X-Fi XtremeMusic and I'm having similar problems. Not just
the popping, but at times ear-grinding static. It comes and goes, but I
can't help but think this is a driver issue. I, too, would love some
input on this.

All,

It isn't Vista's fault that Creative haven't written drivers for their sound
cards but there are hacked drivers for at least some of the Creative cards
that they say work. I don't know whether the following link has the drivers
for your particular cards, but it's at least an example of what is becoming
available. Look around, using google for example, and you may find drivers
for your cards. The Creative website also has a user forum that you can
check out:

Others may have additional ideas.

I have drivers, I'm just trying to conclude for certain that the problem
I'm having is driver related, and not a physical problem with the
hardware.

All,

That information is intended for anyone looking for X-Fi Vista specific
drivers.

All,

For the information of all those perusing these posts, it's important to
know that there is a difference in having "drivers" and in having the "proper
drivers." Most of the causes of sound cards not properly working is because
of drivers. Either the driver is incompatible or missing from the system. In
these cases, checking that you have the latest drivers can solve any issue
you may have. This comment is intended for those who may not be fully aware
of this fact, and is not intended as a slam at anyone. I neglected to make
this point in my prior comments.

I noticed some months ago that the X-FI drive install sets the Environment
to Games as the default. Have you tried switching this to Entertainment
using the Creative Audio Console?
