Default Windows Explorer Behavior...

....I've noticed about 1/2 the time I go to open a drive to see it's contents
the window that opens in explorer shows there's nothing there. This is true
whether I double-click on a drive icon or try and access a drive through an
application, such as when opening a document from within Word or Photoshop.
If I try again in a few minutes it more often than not will show the folder's
contents. Would this be an indexing problem? It's getting to be a pain - I
really want to change my user picture but I can't because every time I go
browse for the picture in the user control panel dialog the drive shows empty
when I get there. Any help is GREATLY appreciated - Thanks!

Default Windows Explorer Behavior...

Checked in Task Manager and when this is happening explorer.exe is taking
100% of system resources. If I shut down the process and restart using
runexplorer.exe it comes back to normal but in a few minutes it just happens
again. I've reinstalled Vista 3 times now and it does it every time. Could
there be a glitch in my download causing it? Should I download again?
Seriously appreciate any help anyone can offer - THANKS!

It may still be in the process of indexing the contents of the drive. Give
it three or four days for it to finish, then see if this still occurs.

Thanks Mark - I'll try that. Would it make sense to just turn off indexing
or does that just cause more problems down the road?

I've found turning off indexing helps a great deal, especially in folders
with lots of files. I also turn off the option to show all files as icons
instead of as thumbnails (you can find this in folder options)

It won't cause any problems, but I find that searching from the Start Menu
to be extremely efficient, once indexing is complete, so by turning it off
you will not have one of the new features of Vista that is truly better
(IMHO) than its predecessors.

Thanks for all the helps buds - I managed to come up with a fix myself. I
reformatted my storage hard drive using the utility in the System &
Maintenance control panel - worked perfect afterwards. Still use yer ideas
bout indexing tho - thnaks again!
