Default delete windows old

I read in a post that I could delete the windows old file is that true
or does it affect something else? The reason I ask is I deleted it then
defragged and everything changed on my computer. My sidebar was gone,
all my Icons moved to the right hand side of the screen, my verizon
EVDO card stopped working and when I attached a second monitor if I
opened a file I would get half on my laptop and half on the second
screen. I tried safe mode and then system restore but always the same
thing.

I would really like to remove the file to free up space so that I can
partition my drive and install a second instance of RC1 for testing
hardware.

I did a clean install and now everythings working again.

I might mention that I used AusLogics Disk Defrag which seemd to work
well up to this point.

I haven't used Diskeeper in a while but Perfect Disk just released v8
beta for Vista RC1. I used it last week with no problems.

Yes, and you can click on the file in progress and see a file name (for
larger files).
