Default dvd drive disappeared

hi, yesterday i turned on my comp to find my dvd drive was missing, i
rebooted, nothing. looking in dev manager, optiarc DVD RW AD-7530 ATA device,
has one of the smal yellow warning icon on it and when dbl clicked says,
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". i have tried updating the drivers, am told
the latest drivers are installed.
also i don't know if this has anything to do with it, but i can not use
system restore, all i get is a msg saying an unknown error stopped sys
restore completing its task.

any ideas would be most welcome, cheers

chickieuk,

This problem is likely caused by some Vista incompatibility in your burner
program, such as Roxio or Nero. Follow the instructions to fix it contained
in the below Microsoft KB article for removing the Upper and Lower Filters in
registry which likely are causing the issue. The article is for WinXP, but
it also applies to Vista:

chuckieuk,

In the event that the burner you are using is causing a problem, here are
links to three burners that people who have used them say work well with
Vista:

http://www.imgburn.com/

http://www.deepburner.com/

http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/hom...ssion_langid=2

I obtained those references from another forum. I've not used any of them.
Each one has a free version and a more fully featured pay version. Just for
your information and consideration. Some people say that the most recent
updates for Roxio and for Nero have fixed some (all?) Vista incompatility
issues, but I have no way of knowing.
