To the best of my knowledge, no version of WinFax is compatible with Windows Vista. This is unfortunate, but it is so. -- groucho Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

I've done some testing with WinFax PRO and Vista .
installed winfax pro version version 10.03 on Windows Vista Basic Edition. as per: http://www.getfaxing.com/cgi-bin/ib3...=ST;f=17;t=259 which is a great source of WinFax information - Yes you can Send 1 page Faxes (WinFax cover pages only) - Yes you can Receive Faxes. What doesn't work is printing(faxing) from any other application since printer drivers for WinFax do not get installed (they are incompatible with Vista since they are Kernel Mode printer drivers). So, printing or adding attachments will not work. This is a major part of winfax so without this you are very limited in what you can do. Other items that I found that NOT work under Vista a - Fax Sharing (tells you TCP/IP is not installed, so you can't setup this feature) - Entering any number into a number specific field such as fax number, CSID, phonebook #, IP address causes the dialog box open to crash. - In Dialing settings (entering area code settings) causes dialog box to crash. The WinFax service appears to work , but I recommend disabling it from the "automatic" setting to "disabled" so it does not load at startup. So what is the point to all this? you can still continue to use WinFax as a front end to receive faxes in WinFax and print them out or use WinFax to organize your older faxes archives incase you need to view or print them at a later date. Well, with all those restrictions, that is almost like driving a car that can only turn right. It is sad that no fax software that is compatible with Windows Vista is anything like WinFax. Some will not even let you choose your data store folder, others have major bugs. The first programmer that comes up with a version of WinFax that is fully compatible with Vista will make a fortune ![]() -- groucho Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

These Fax products work under Vista:
Snappy Fax http://www.snappysoftware.com/ RKSFax http://www.rkssoftware.com/rksfax/overview.html VentaFax http://www.ventafax.com/ FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 7.5 http://www.faxtalk.com/products/ftfcp/index.htm I've seen reports that the free version of BVRP works with Vista also: http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp BVRP PhoneTools Since the above comes bundled with new USR modems, I don't know if it will work with non-USR modems. You can also send Faxes via your Internet connection provided you are willing to pay for an Internet E-Faxing service: http://www.slipstick.com/addins/serv...tm#internetfax Personal Fax Services - Internet Fax http://www.savetz.com/fax/ FAQ: How can I send a fax from the Internet? Yes, you are right, but none of these products are anything like WinFax. Some don't let you choose your fax data store folder. Others are very buggy. Still others are very complex and user-unfriendly. Just trying to use them makes you anxious. Can you name one product which is the most like WinFax, or one that can import WinFax data? Thanks. -- groucho Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
