Default Very slow network connection to 64 bit server

I use my laptop, running Vista Ultimate 32 bit, to remotely administer our
servers. We have recently had a new server installed running 2003 server
standard R2 64 bit.
Initially I noticed that the remote desktop connection to this 64 bit server
was so slow as to be unusable, (the connections to the 32 bit servers was
fine), but even browsing the shares or transfering simple files is very slow
too. Applications using data stores on the new server are unusable as well.
All XP workstations and the 2003 32 bit servers can connect, share and
transfer files normally with the 64 bit server. I'm presuming therefore it's
a Vista issue.

All ideas welcome.

Hi Tribe,

My name is Katarzyna - I work in the Windows Networking Team.

Can you help us investigate the slow RDP issue further? I would need you to
collect some network traces (Netmon, Ethereal, etc.) and share them with us
so our team can investigate. Are you willing to help us so we can solve the
issues you are seeing together?

Please email me at

Regards,
Katarzyna

Hi Katarzyna
Please let me know the information that you require. Do you work for
Microsoft? You're profile doesn't say.

I would be very careful about this. MS employees usually use microsoft.com
email addresses...

Hi Tribe,

Yes, I work for Microsoft. I am in the Windows OS Division, working for
Internet Protocols Team. As you may see from my profile, all of my posts
relate to either RDP issues or auto-tuning because this is what I work on.

I would like to avoid giving out my work email address to everyone in the
clear. You must share my concerns since I can't find your email anywhere
either. If you leave me your contact info (either here on on hotmail), I will
reply from my work account.

We would like to reproduce the RDP issue so we will ask you to enable
auto-tuning back on, try an RDP session, collect network traces (e.g., with
Microsoft's Netmon) and crash dumps. We will send you detailed instructions.

As you can see, this issue is very important to us. It would be very helpful
if you helped us solve it.

Regards,
Katarzyna

Per advice that I received internally, here is my address: kpuchala at
microsoft.com. Let me know if you're still up for setting a repro on RDP.

Thanks,
Katarzyna

Here is what you need to do if you have the same issue:

- Run a command prompt (cmd.exe) as an Administrator
- Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
