My PC had a problem last week. Booted up fine but when it started going into
Vista (HP) it said there was a problem and I needed to insert the disk and select repair. When I tried that it said repair could only be done from within Windows. So I tried upgrading to 64bit, loaded fine but then the wifi driver wouldn't work - it's not 64bit compatible. So I reinstalled 32bit Vista, which loaded fine. However I had a problem with the USB wifi device again. At fist it was coming up 'unknown device'. Eventually I found that for whatever reason the install disk was only loading half the drivers, so I found the reinstall drivers off a backup and resinstalled it and it was picked up fine. Hoever when I tried to connect to the wifi router, it could see it (it's a BT homehub) but wouldn't connect. After going through every option in Network and Connections manager it said the wireless service wasn't intalled, and offered to install it. Then witha bit more messing around I got into some options which had a 'discover unknown networks' (or something similar) which was turned off. Okay, I turned it on and bingo - connected fine to the web. Next time I turned the PC on again though, it did the same - wouldn't connect. So I messed around in Network and Connections manager and eventually went through the same rigmarole - started up the wirelss service, and eventually found the options for 'discover knknown networks' and connected again. Next time I turned it on, the same thing ahppened. I eventually got it to start the wireless service, but the options with 'discover unknown networks' has disappeared. I've been through help, which says either go through 'customise' (which isn't anywhere in Network and connections manager, the other option it says is click on the double down arrows button/icon to display the options but there isn't a double arrow button/icon. All that there is are the options on the left, manage connections, create a connection, manage networks, create a network. WHen I try to connect to the web is brings up a dialog saying the connection can't be found, it offers to repair it, can't do that. It can see the BT HomeHub (or maybe it just remembers it from last time?) and it can see someone else's local wifi, but I just can't find that 'discover; option. First, how do I set the wireless service to come on when I start windows, and second, what's hapened to the options? Any help will be greatly appreciated! |
