I have a laptop with Vista Business and a desktop with Vista Home Premium.
All my files are stored on my Vista Home machine. When I try to access the files from my laptop, it always requires the username and password on the Vista Home machine after a reboot. And, then some days it will allow me to access the files and some days it won't. I have to reboot several times to get them to talk again. I also have another desktop with Vista Home. It never requires a user name or password to access the Vista Home machine, but it sometimes can access the files and sometimes can't -- just like the laptop. I have changed user names, workgroup names, uninstalled all firewall/av software except Windows Firewall, opened up all permissions on both computers: no password requirement, discovery on, public file sharing 'on', file sharing 'on', changed the network type to private -- all to no avail. Please help. I'm at my wits end. |

If you're not using a specified account ("no password requirement" = Password Protected Sharing Off??) then you need Guest activated for network access. http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Activate http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0....html#Activate Or maybe you have cached a token already, from a previous connection (VB / VHP will I believe both cache tokens). http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#NonGuest http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0....html#NonGuest -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
