Default Print from XP to a pinter connected to Vista

Hi,

My printer is connected to my new vista machine, and I am trying to set that
up as a shared printer so that I can print from XP.

A few questions.

1. I enabled shared printing from vista, using
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/net.../vista_fp.mspx. I wish to
share only the printer, not any folders. But then, when I enable shared
printing folder sharing is also enabled. Is this a bug or a feature? Is there
a way I can share only the printer and not any folders?

2. My XP system is able to locate my computer, but not display the name of
the printer attached to my vista machine. Even if manually type the name in
the "printer" field on the XP shared printer screen, I get an error message
that the printer is not found.

Any help will be appreciated.

thanks

1. Go to the Network and Sharing center to turn off the file sharing.
2. Have you enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP?

Hello,

Thanks.

1. I had already tried disabling folder sharing. But then, printer sharing
gets disabled as well!
2. Should I enable netbios? What is that, and how do I enable it? When I
view the properties of the network connection, it says that file sharing is
enabled.

Thanks, I think that helped some. I'll try it later today. I suppose I don't
need netbios.

However, I still have the question re sharing folder and printers
independently. Can u tell me if it is a bug or a feature that I cannot share
only the printer? I don't care if someone from the other computer prints on
this printer, but it would bother me if they can look at some shared folders.

I'll let you know if I face other problems.
