Default Internet runs slower on vista than on XP desktop

My main problem is, I have a laptop running Vista Home Premium, and the
internet runs significantly slower on it that on my XP desktop. My desktop is
wired to the internet, but my laptop is on wireless. We have a 6mbit
connection, and Ive run speed tests confirming such. However, when I download
something on my desktop, it goes 700kb/s on average, but my laptop is going
70kb/s. Anyone have any clue what may be causing this? Its driving me insane.

Thanks a bunch

Could be that your Vista machine has insufficient power for Vista. Vista is
a very demanding operating system. For efficient performance, it should have
at least 2 GB of RAM, 40 GB of hard drive storage, 256 MB of display adapter
memory with Direct X9-capable 3D graphics, and a 2 GHZ CPU.

Hehe, thats definitely not the issue. My latop is a core 2 duo 7200 2.0 GHz,
2gigs ram, NVidia GeForce Go 7200 512 dedi, and a good bit of other stuff. My
laptops power is definitely not the problem, and if it is, vista needs to go
back to the drawing boards completely.

Does anyone have an idea as to what this issue is?

Did you run the command window as an administrator?

And try
netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
instead of
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Id like to start off by saying, thank you so much for your help. I really
appreciate you taking the time to assist me.

So, the issue still remains. I just tested on my PC and I got 780kb/s on
average, and right now as Im typing, Im geting 50kb/s on my laptop (no, the
PC isnt downloading anything). Not only that, my uTorrent client refuses to
accept that my ports are forwarded, and Ive exhausted my resources for
allowing that port to be forwarded, yet to no avail, and Im getting horrid
speeds in my torrents as well. Seems another issue has arisen over the past 2
weeks as well. Somehow, my firefox and IE just stop working and wont connect
to any pages, but everything else connects to the net fine. However, a few
hours later, it all DCs.

Im very close to just saying FU vista moving back to XP, cause these
troubles really arent worth nothing more than a pretty UI....

Well, I get to say thank you back, because from researching some of the advice I
was providing this evening, I discovered a whole new set of issues about Vista,
that you may benefit from knowing, and I may also in the future.

If you haven't had the opportunity to move back to XP, do some reading with me,
about changes to your network that are needed to accommodate a computer running
Vista.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/0...d-routers.html

A computer running Vista won't be transparent to your router, and more so if the
router is older. What make and model router do you have? Are you running UPnP?
