Default Connecting to a Network Share

OS: Vista Ultimate

Has anyone had this issue -

I connect to my company network via VPN (Cisco VPN client). The connection
is fine and I can ping the server (using dns name and ip address) that I want
to connect to but when I goto run and type the network drive name
\\servername\public to map the directory I get an error -

Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found

I know its fine because from my XP laptop it works. Open for suggestions?

What name resolution are you using - just DNS, or NetBT mixed with DNS?

If NetBT is involved, is the Cisco VPN configured to pass NetBT?

Do you have any other computers running VU on this LAN segment?

You have slow response.
1) Busy computer.
2) Overloaded protocol stack.
3) Slow name resolution.

So try "\\HostIPAddress" and compare response to "\\HostName".

Then look at logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all". Causes for #2 and
#3 can be seen there.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...iagnosing.html

And do a malware check, and a CPU activity check. Causes for #1 can be seen
there.

"VU" = "Vista Ultimate".

Try using the fully qualified domain name of the server instead of just the
server name. '\\servername.contoso.com\public' instead of
\\servername\public. This resolved all of my mapped drive over VPN problems.
