I Have recently updated to vista business edition from xp home.
in devce manager only a vga graphics card is listed.
why is my nvidia card not listed and how can i get it working again.
it worked fine before but since the upgrade it isnt listed in device manager.
any thoughts??

What model NVIDIA card do you have installed (e.g. 4299, 6200, 7300)?
Have you tried installing the correct Vista drivers for your card?
If the card is too old, Vista won't have drivers for it and generic VGA
drivers will be used.

I Have an Nvidia Geforce Fx Go5700
and i cant install the drivers because the nvidia installer needs to
recognise the card there to install them.
remember the card is not even listed in device manager.

If the nVidia GeForce FX GO5700 is the only video card you have installed,
then the proper drivers will recognize it. There is nothing else there to
recognize. The VGA information you are seeing likely is the name of the
drivers that Vista installed and not of the video card. In either event, it
doesn't matter. Download and install the proper drivers for your card and
install them. Take care to note, to understand, and to follow the
instructions for installing the drivers. Basically, you will need to
uninstall the drivers you now have before you install the updated drivers.

I've seen that message. It means that you don't have the correct drivers for
your card. That would be why the installer doesn't recognize the card.
Going to NVIDIA driver downloads, I cannot find Vista drivers for your card.
In the only Go category, there are no Vista drivers. In the FX category,
your Go5700 is not listed. Where, exactly , did you get the Vista drivers
you are trying to install?

The 96.85 drivers are currently the officially supported Vista drivers for
the NVIDIA 5XXX cards and these are the same drivers that were incorporated
into the Vista RTM DVDs. See the following link:

oversight on NVIDIA's part, I don't know.
I do know, from the experience of trying to install the NVIDIA 6000/7000
series Vista drivers on a PC with an FX 5500 video card by mistake, that the
symptoms described by the OP occur when you have the wrong driver.

Go card drivers are not supported directly from NVIDIA they are only
supported from the Manufacturer who sold you the laptop.
You may be able to find the driver you need if your laptop vendor does not
have it available from its Website.
