Hi, I was hoping someone could help me with this problem.
I have a Desktop set up as a dual boot system running Vista (work + new games), and XP (old games), with a printer attached via USB. I have finally networked this computer with a laptop running XP (almost sorted out the file sharing issues) I have managed to link the printer to the desktop and laptop with the desktop running XP, but I cant seem to get it working Laptop to vista. When I try to install the printer as a network printer on the laptop, it can see the printer, but when I go to install it it says the server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. I have downloaded the driver from brother and tried doing it manually but it says windows is unable to locate a suitable driver. I have tried from the vista end (this is what I had to do for the XP desktop - XP laptop connection) via the printer - sharing option, and the additional driver submenu. It gives me the following options processor type installed Itanium type 3 - user mode No x64 type 3 - user mode Yes x86 type 3 - user mode No I assume the middle option is because of the 64bit vista when I try to install the other two options it asks for the driver, and when I point to the driver I downloaded from brother it says teh driver doesn't contain the driver for the requested processor architecture. So I suppose my question is Has anyone networked a printer from a laptop running 32 bit XP to a desktop running 64bit vista if so How. Any other suggestions P.S. I am sorry if this is too verbose |
