Preparing to migrate my first domain with Win XP clients to Vista. Roaming
profiles are in use. Users do roam, and until migration is complete, roaming profiles must interoperate between XP & Vista. Per this article-- http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true --to roam certain folders (I'll use Favorites as an example because that's where I first observed it), I should use GPMC on a Vista computer to redirect the Favorites folder to the Favorites folder in the v1 roaming profile folder. Then XP & Vista can both use the same folder. If you haven't seen the article, it's the last subject covered. This works for computers that are always connected. But for notebooks, it does not work when they're offline. When they're offline, the Favorites folder can't be accessed, because, per this article-- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842007 --one must disable offline files on user profile shares, and we have done so. I can live with the user hive not migrating (though I don't like it much), but not having Favorites and other key data folders not roam is going to cause a lot of notebook users a lot of pain...starting with me! I posted the wrong TechNet article URL. The one advising redirecting
Favorites (among others) to the V1 profile is here-- http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...ca4dc1033.mspx -- Jeff Vandervoort JRVsystems http://www.jrvsystems.com "Jeff Vandervoort" jeffv @ jrvsystems dot com wrote in message ... For any lurkers...
No answers in this group, but in the MS Partner newsgroup MS PSS told me to disregard MSKB 842007, and set Caching on the profile share to "Only the files and programs that users specify will be available offline." -- Jeff Vandervoort JRVsystems http://www.jrvsystems.com "Jeff Vandervoort" jeffv @ jrvsystems dot com wrote in message ...
