I've got a problem with Vista's Svchost.exe. I don't know why, but is
seems to have started after I installed Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
2 single player demo. I noticed that after the computer booted and the
boot itself was pretty fast until the desktop comes up and then it slows
down a bit. It acts if I was defragging or something. I can still run
everything, but it's slowed down about 30% at least. Then I uninstalled
GRAW2 SP Demo, with some pain...it didn't want to uninstall, but I
finally got it. Anyway, I still have this problem with Svchost.exe.

The particular Scvhost process seems to be linked to these services
which all have the same PID which is 908. They are wudfsvc- Windows
Driver Foundation, WPDBusEnum- Portable Device Enumerator Service,
WdiSystemHost- DiagnosticSystemHost, UxSms- Desktop Window Manager
Session Manager, TrkWks- Distributed Link Tracking Client,
TabletInputService- Tablet PC Input Service, SysMain- Superfetch,
PcaSvc- Program Compatibility Assistant Service, Netman- Network
Connections, hidserv- Human Interface Device Access, and finally
EMDMgmt- ReadyBoost.

Now this lasts for about 15 minutes after I first boot...the slowdown
that is. I know I don't need stuff like the TablettInputService because
I don't have a Tablet PC and I would think I could also stop the
ReadyBoost service because I don't have any USB keys to utilize
Readyboost....that is USB keys that I use for that anyway.

I don't know for certain that it is the Svchost.exe process, but when I
look in Task Mananger, I see 97% free or so and I see Svchost.exe
utilizing between 1 to 3%. The worst thing is my hard drive light keeps
flashing busy for all this time and I have two hard drives with two
partitions with 31GB out of 115GB free on my C: drive, 107GB free out of
117GB on my D: partition and 449GB free out of 465GB on my E: drive. I
know C: is a bit cramped but I'm not installing anything on it anymore.

Oh, I have one other problem too. I had just installed Office XP a few
days ago and I just uninstalled it a while ago to see if for some reason
that would clear up the slowdown and the HD activity after booting and
now when I go to d/l a file, Office XP comes up wanting me to put the
install disc in. Any idea on how to get rid of that perhaps?

Come on guys....doesn't anyone have any ideas? From the Vista Forums,
someone else seems to think it's Office XP too. I think it has to do
with some dll or some com files like MilesAhead suggested from the other
forum. Anyone else have an ideas about that? Here's the link and it's

Well, I reformatted and reinstalled Vista and it's still doing it,
albeit faster. I'm not sure if Office XP was the culprit or not or if I
just suddenly noticed that Svchost was working and Superfetch was taking
this time to scan everything everytime I boot the computer....sigh.

same problem only it happens when using Adobe products, Autodesk
Products, watching video, and most recently playing Dragon Age: Origins.
I spent the better part of the morning on the phone with Alienware's
Tech support, only to find out what I already knew. All the hardware on
my machine is working properly. I have trolled so many forums I can't
remember them all anymore. If anyone has any ideas please help.
P.S. I too have reformatted (twice actually) as this has been an
ongoing problem for about two months.
