It seems that any time I disconnect from my Vista machine through remote
desktop my session gets logged out. I am simply closing the RDC window, not
explicitly loggin g out. On XP the session would stay alive.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

Not here. If I click on the red X in the upper right of the active RDP
window I get a disconnect warning popup. The same if I go to Start in the
open RDP window and tap on the disconnect X...
