Alright, I just recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate RC 1, and for the
most part, 99% of programs that I have been installing have worked great so far. The only 2 things that haven't worked so far is: 1. Messenger Mate for AIM 2. Driver installation for my HP 5150 printer ![]() I tried playing FAR CRY, and it loads up fine but once it tries to load a level, i just get a black screen and it freezes. I recently updated my video card drivers to the latest NVIDIA Windows vista beta drivers. I have a Geforce 5500 FX OC (256 MB). My pc specs are as follows: COMPAQ Presario with AMD Athlon 64 3400+ processor with 1 GB of RAM and plenty of hard drive space. Do you think this has to do with the drivers? Because as far as I can tell, Far Cry should work in Windows Vista...especially with the claims they make about games working better. |

What version of Far Cry are you running? I had the same issue with Far Cry on
Windows XP SP2 with the latest Nvidia drivers using a GeForce 6800 Ultra video card, on a Athlon XP 2500+ rig with 2G of ram. I downloaded the latest patch from the Far Cry site, V1.33 I think is latest, which solved that issue. I installed Vista RC1 yesterday and started Far Cry today. It works, though I have some performance issues to fix since it's a bit jerky. I hope this helps you. |

I just installed FarCry on my RC1 system and it's playing just fine. I did
install the 1.3 patch before trying the game. I'm running a 6800 plain with the nvidia vista RC1 drivers "Joseph Cavallaro Jr." wrote in message ... Could it be that I copied the entire ubisoft folder from my windows.old
directory to the program files on vista and ran the farcry.exe file from there? or do you think it should have nothing to do with that (in other words, a video issue)? I'd say it's quit possible. I did a format re-install of my windows and
because of that I was unable to run Far Cry which is on another drive. If you haven't tried a full fresh install of Far Cry I would give that a shot. "Joseph Cavallaro Jr." wrote in message ... A game like Far Cry WILL NOT WORK unless you run the installer. It sounds
like you installed Vista into the same partition as XP without reformatting (this is a bad idea BTW, if you want to dual boot you should have shrunk your XP partition and created a new partition for Vista). In any case, as far as Vista is concerned, you have never installed Far Cry. Run the installer off the CD, then it should work. I recommend using Compatibility mode: XP since Far Cry is a DirectX 9 (XP), not DX10 (Vista) game. Games written for DirectX 10 are on their way, and should look freaking amazing.I doubt any will be released at least until Vista itself goes to market, though. It's definately an install issue because I did an upgrade over my XP and Far
Cry works ok. It was jerky, but I did not bother working on it to change settings to improve performance. When I first got Far Cry, it was bundled with my video card. When I installed it on XP, it loaded, went through the initial cut scene then went black. I could move around, but the screen was blank. After I downloaded the first patch I went from 1.0 to 1.2 I think, and that fixed the problem. "cbhacking" wrote: A game like Far Cry WILL NOT WORK unless you run the installer.
