Default accessing network storage drive files with vista

i have a network LAN storage drive connected to a linksys router and when
using xp i can add a network place, find the device, and view folders and
files

with vista, i cannot

i can access the storage drive and open the folders, but i cannot access the
files within those folders

for instance, if i have NEW FOLDER and in that NEW FOLDER i have an mp3
music file, then with xp i am able to play/open the mp3 file etc, but with
vista i can only get as far as NEW FOLDER and nothing else

any ideas?

i am using vista home premium, i can access files on my other laptops (one
vista and one xp and shared drives) and access on the storage drive is set to
read and write, just like it was in xp

i do not have secpol.msc nor changing the binary value to 1 from 3 in
regedit local maching lmcompatibility works!

thanks!!
claire
