Wait for nVidia's drivers to improve, or stick an ATI card in there. I
can't tell the difference between XP and Vista while playing with my X850XT
PE.

Ok, thanks for the help Paul!

I gotta wait for Nvidia then. Never a ATI card in my computer.

I'm not sure about yours, but in Beta 2, I had to use the Nvidia Beta
drivers to get BF2 to work. In RC1 the native drivers seems to do fine.
Running a 6800GT card.

Oh you Fanboys, you're so silly. Having an ATI card doesn't seem to make
much difference. I've got the X1900XTX and I'm seeing slower performance
under Vista than under XP. I also have the 6800GT and see the same issues.

I've been running a series of benchmarks on the different games and gaming
benchmarks and so far, Vista is slower across the board. In one case 30%

I also haven't seen any performance gains by running in XP 2 compat mode
over regular Vista Mode.

Here's a list of benchmarks I've ran so far with the X1900XTX, using the
beta Vista drivers from ATI and Vista RC1.

3dMark06
XP - scored: 5061 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=256235
Vista - scored: 4873 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=509085
Vista XP2 mode - scored 4852 -
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=509124

Half-life 2: Lost Coast
XP - scored: 101.71
Vista - scored: 70.22

Aquamark
XP - scored 81,999
Vista - scored 65,39

FEAR with patch 1.07.
XP - scored: 141
Vista - scored: 94, with XP mode scored the same

Under Battlefield 2, the performance seemed fine at first, but as I starting
playing, I noticed alot of stuttering and drops from a normal steady 99-100
fps to 50 fps.

I understand that this is all Beta software with unpolished Beta drivers.
But so far, Vista slow for games. I was really thinking it was going to be
super streamlined for video, but whatever the issue, it's less than
desireable under vista. Guess I'll wait for the next round of driver
releases.

I know on my test machines performance is much worse than XP with nVidia'
drivers while ATI's I can't tell the difference.

nVidia's drivers have been bad since the beginning, stuttering mouse
pointer, to even screen corruption in the current builds, I've had to go
back to XP drivers on my nVidia machines to make them useable even on the
desktop.

Glad to get your response Paul.
would you suggest going to Nvidia/XP drivers if (like me) you're getting
random BSOD on the desktop? I haven't had any success getting BF2 to run on
any build of Vista with my hardware (6800GT/3.0GHz P4/2GB PC3200/WD Raptor
150)

Thank you

Try it, you'll lose Aero, but losing that is better than random BSODs.

Personally my performance on BF2 is so much better on Vista than on XP. I
can literally get past all the rotating "best players.......best team.... "
etc screens and the map has loaded AND verified the files! No more sitting
around waiting waiting waiting.

RAM! people's it's all about the RAM, Battlefield 2 is Notorious for Eating
up around 1.8GB of RAM on windows XP, i have enough stutters on 32 player
maps(only 1GB here) and i'm not exactly complaining about Vistas RAM usage,
Requirements will ALWAYS increase, nothing we can do about that, try turning
all the Visual elements(AERO) and shutting down uneeded services. and
remember, this is BETA software, although it's VERY stable on my system(not
one crash or BSOD yet).
