how to correct this problem with dhcp
Try this first: ipconfig /flushdns and then ipconfig /registerdns. If that doesn't fix the problem, check this link for more information.

You could try this fix but I suspect that it is not the problem as everyone
using Comcast with Vista would be experiencing it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 I suspect a buggy NIC driver. See if you can find a newer NIC driver. I highly recommend you not connect directly to the modem in any case. You should be using a router. there is a newer driver on windows update, but nothing on motherboard web site.

As a general rule of thumb I don't get hardware updates from Microsoft. With
Vista sometimes it's worth a try. With XP it was generally a disaster.
