Add vista machine to existing XP home network
I am trying to add Vista to an existing Xp home network with print and save
options. I have added the update patch and see the vista on xp and visa versa, but I still can not share, print, or access files. Any ideas?

Add vista machine to existing XP home network
Robert, I have the same problem as myriad other users seem to be having...
and your link to chicago tech gets me a 404 - Not found Existing network used over five years... laptops, desktops, XP, Win95, Apple, wired and wireless... all worked together just fine - shared files, shared printers... Then I added a new PC with Vista Home Premium. It is now my "main" computer with printers attached to it via USB. Other computers can "see" this computer, but can't connect to its (shared) folders or its (shared) printer. Then this afternoon, while using the Vista I retrieved a file from an XP machine. did some work on it, then proceeded to save it back tot he XP and it said I didni't have permissions. I have the XP Home version network with an aging Dell notebook, 2 Compaq
destops running XP, and my business notebook (HPnc6400) running 2000pro. I just went through this trauma with 2000 not being able to communicate with XP and had to spend hundreds of dollars on new OS (BS) software to connect my machines. Now I need to replace my wife's notebook and can't find anything without Vista out there. I see a lot of people with problems on this board doing what I am contemplating. Is there any hope? Permission has been given to "everyone"... which it was from the beginning.

I am having similar problems and a Toshiba networking support person and I
tried everything both of us could think of. Here is my comments and ? Frankly, Vista is a mess. It has made much of what we have learned useless and the computer setup and maintenance tools we relied on are either gone or well hidden. I have spent days trying to get our new Toshiba notebook (Vista OS) to be able to access the shared drives, files and printers on our home business desktop (HP with XP Pro OS). You can see the resources on the desktop computer (XP Pro OS) and they appear to be available (so it is not a networking problem) but you can't actually access anything. The Toshiba can even access the wireless router and change settings so that doesn't seem to be blocking it. My notebook from work - an IBM (XP Pro OS) has no problem accessing these same resources. All 3 of these machines are set up to be a part of the same workgroup. Note! the desktop computer can access the shared drive on the Vista machine fine.
