Default Password protect users

I have main PC running Windows XP (ethernet) and a laptop running Vista
(wireless).
I have set up a Workgroup via a BT Home Hub and can access files between
both machines.
My only problem is that I don't want general access, i.e. I want to access
my own user files on both PCs without other users being able to view them.
I have read the Help file and the Vista web site for network sharing but
think I must be missing something. As soon as I enable Password protected
sharing on the laptop, I can't access anything on my PC but if I uncheck
this, everyone else has access to my PC files.

Any help would be much appreciated

Make sure you don't enable guest account. Also you should share public folder in your case. This how may help too,
