I found this on a different posting. It worked for me.
Vista ------ Click Start Control Panel Hardware and Sound Printers Click on Add a printer Select Add a local printer Create a new port Local Port Click on Next Enter the port name for the network printer (i.e. \\Computer Name\Printer Name) Select the printer from the list Continue until the printer is installed. Other operating systems ---------------------------- Find the Add printer wizard and do exactly the same method as for Vista. With any luck your printer will already have printer drivers included with Vista and obtaining drivers for other operating systems if they are missing should not be a problem. This reply about printing is interesting and useful but does not answer jms's
question. Does anyone else know anything about the original problem? I am experiencing the same thing, in my case with Vista housing the drive I want to share and XP trying to get at it from a laptop. After logging in as administrator and giving all the permissions I can, I still am stopped at the end with the same message, which includes no information about why, it just says "access denied." On the laptop, it simply says, "not accessible," you might not have permission to use this network resource." "Greg" wrote: I found this on a different posting. It worked for me. Sorry but I was reading over thing, I have tried all this right down to
getting to new port, my problem - my laptop running vist will not accept the \\ Slashe at all, I can type it in without but then it still doesn't work use them and it says the pathname or network is valid. So I am still stumped at what to do next. "TJR" wrote: This reply about printing is interesting and useful but does not answer jms's question.
