Perhaps the easiest way to fix all your special folders, like Music,
Pictures, Documents, Downloads, etc., restore their special icons, with all those folders put in the default locations, as well as solve your double Documents (one of which is your "real" Documents folder, and another a duplication), is to create a new administrative user account. Otherwise I fear this could take some time. I have a suspicion that your Pictures folder is not actually a shell folder, that is, one with a special icon. (When you right-click on your Pictures folder, and choose Properties, is there a Location tab? The presence of a Location tab indicates that this is the "real" shell, or special, folder). Would it be a hassle to create a New (administrative) Account, and then delete your old account (after you've moved the files you want to keep)? Since you've just reformatted, doing it now might be the best thing. Let me know what you think... I can help you with a couple tips on how to move you files, so that your special folders don't go haywire. "David H" wrote in message ... I did get the folder back but all the pictures (sample pictures were gone) Just trying to get the double saving thing fixed. It is so wired did not do that until I had to reformat. Buy the way thanks for all your help, this vista program takes some getting use to. "dean-dean" wrote: (I'm having Network problems at the moment, so things are a little slow. I posted a reply, but then it said it's no longer on the server, so this may show up twice. Dunno.) Okay. Apparently the registry has information concerning your Pictures folder that says it's path (location) is on a drive that is no longer connected to your computer. Did you at one time move your Pictures folder to a different partition or drive, one that you no longer have set up on your computer? "David H" wrote in message ... I also did the cut and past and still says not found "dean-dean" wrote: Are you typing this exactly (you could Copy and Paste it): shell:my pictures Note the where the space is. When you click on Documents in the Start Menu, what is the path (location) shown in the Address box of Windows Explorer? Is it C:\Users\(Your Name)\Documents? "David H" wrote in message ... dean-dean when i do the search it says it can not be found. the doctuments folder is on the right of the start menue and the path seems to be ok. "dean-dean" wrote: If you don't have a Pictures folder, then, in the Start Search box of the Start Menu, type "shell:my pictures" (without quotes), and press Enter on your keyboard. If you have created a folder using New Folder and named it Pictures, under C:\Users\(Your Name\ , then delete that first (don't move it, or rename it). Where is your Documents folder located? Or, at least, what is the path of the Documents folder you are saving to? "David H" David wrote in message ... I had to reformat my hard drive and lost the picture folder and search can no find it on the hard drive. Is there a way to redown or find it. Also when I save a document in my documents it saves there and in my owner folder in documents. Is there any way to get it to just save to documents. |
