I have set up a home network with one vista, three xp's. Everyone can see
each other and I can have allowed the drives to be shared on all four computers. I can access the entire vista drive from the xp's. I cannot access each of the three xp Documents & Settings from any of the computers although the drives I have shared have the Documents & Settings within them. If I have shared the root drive, why would a file within that drive not be accessible? I would appreciate anyone's help. Thanks. |

If XP Home, that is why since Home doesn't allow sharing of users' home directories or program files. If XP Pro, uncheck "Use Simple Sharing" in Folder OptionsView tablast option. Or just put files you wish to share in the Shared Documents folder. Don't forget to put all machines on the same Workgroup and create identical user accounts/passwords on all machines. It's XP Home. All machines have identical users and passwords. I guess I'll
have to use the shared documents. I just wanted to keep everything very simple - 4 shared drives. Thanks. "Malke" wrote: maryse wrote: I have set up a home network with one vista, three xp's. Sharing entire drives may seem simple but it is insecure. Yes, you are best off using Shared Documents. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!"
