Default Aero effects stopped on upgrade from beta 2 to RC1

I installed beta 2 on a laptop with X300 graphics and the Aero UI was working
nicely with transparent glass frames, 3D windows switcher, etc, upgraded to
RC1 and its gone back to basics. I've updated the driver from Windows Update
and still nothing? Why did it change? Have MS increased the minimum hardware
requirements and stopped it deliberately?

Have you right clicked on the desktop and click personalization? If you
click Window Colors & Appearance settings then you can select Windows Aero.
Windows Vista Basic is non-Aero and that is how my RC-1 installed. Once you
select Aero then it only gives you a color selection window. To remove Aero
effects you have to click on the link in the bottom left of the color
selection window that opens the Classic Appearance Properties.

Thanks, that's it. On upgrade from beta 2 it had changed back to basic and I
hadn't found how to reset it. When I went to the performance options and
turned on Glass, it just reset it again.
Thanks.

I have this issue as well. Everything is in the basic or classic form now,
that is, the start menu, toolbar, and windows. I tried doing what you said,
and aero glass is not on the list to choose from. Also, the dpi seems to be
higher than it says it is. Help?
