I'm having a problem getting my new "Windows Vista Home Premium" laptop working wirelessly with my new BTHomeHub. The HomeHub is connected to my broadband link and is showing all the right connectivity lights, however my laptop is unable to automatically detect the HomeHub when I view my wireless connections/networks. I have manually created a wireless connection for the HomeHub with the correct SSID, WEP key and other settings. But when I view my wireless networks I am told "no networks could be found". However, sometimes the HomeHub connection that I have added will appear, but when I try to connect I get a message after 30/60 seconds telling me that there has been a problem. I am able to get Internet access if I plug an Ethernet cable from my laptop NIC to the HomeHub, and have logged into the HomeHub to check the SSID & WEP key are correct. The wireless card in the laptop has the latest device driver, and the guy that sold me the laptop has said it was tested before he passed it onto me, and he was able to wirelessly connect to his access point. I've read somewhere else that "wireless association" could be the problem, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else out there had this problem with a BTHomeHub & Vista, or able to point me in the right direction? -- Northbank *Northbank* |

Without security settings, can you access the wireless?

I've resolved problems with the BTHomeHub by entering the WEP key as
hexadecimal characters rather than as ASCII. "Northbank" wrote: I'm having a problem getting my new "Windows Vista Home Premium" laptop working wirelessly with my new BTHomeHub. Bob, I haven't yet tried configuring it without the WEP key, but will do this as a test. Obvisouly I don't want to leave the Hub unsecure and need it to work with the WEP key, although I have read elsewhere that there are security issues with the BTHomeHubs anyway when using WEP. I've previously logged into the hub to check the SSID and WEP key match the settings I am using on my laptop and all checks out OK. -- Northbank *Northbank* |
