Company of Heroes - Patches?
Just wondering how the patches for COH work. There is a whole list of them
(6 or 7). I've just installed the first on the list, which seemed to go okay. Do I just go through and install them all? Also, when playing the game it sometimes flips me back to my desktop. Should I be turning off all of the Windows Services when I play, and how do I do that? I turn off Windows Defender and McAfee Virus and aero display when playing. I'm running Vista Ultimate on a laptop with Nvidia go7950GTX with updated drivers. Hope these aren't dumb question, but this is the first game I've ever installed. TIA |

Hope these aren't dumb question, but this is the first game I've ever installed. No such thing as dumb questions, only dumb answers. (My History teacher from like 6th grade) Just looked at http://www.companyofheroesgame.com/updates/ OK, this is a little tricky. Basically the patch file looks like this... EN_100_140_Patch.exe 100 or the first number is the version of the game you ALREADY have installed on your computer. In this case, v1.00. The second number is the version that the patch updates the game too. In this case, v1.40. If you installed the first patch, you are now running Company of Heroes v1.40. Company of Heroes is currently on v1.71, so there are 2 more patches you need to update CoH all the way. First you need to get from v1.40 to v1.70, look for the file ending in: http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._170_Patch.exe Download and run, follow the prompts, make sure it is sucessful. Next we'll go from v1.70 to v1.71: http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._171_Patch.exe Download and run, and CoH should be all up to date. If CoH is running at v1.71 it might fix a bunch of problems with Vista, if the problem does not resolve itself just respond here and let us know. -A. |

Thanks for all your help.....I downloaded the 140 patch what about the 140.150 and 140.160? Sorry, it's confusing. The only one you want it is v1.71, to get to v1.71 I took you on the path of LEAST resistance. When you install the game you have v1.00, so if you apply the patch to go to v1.40, then you can use the first link I put up there to get to v1.70, then the last file will update the game to v1.71 When you apply a patch, EVERY FIX from all the previous versions are applied. If THQ did a EN_100_171_Patch.exe file you could install the game, run that SINGLE patch file and you'll be at v1.71. You do NOT, I REPEAT, NOT have to install every patch to get to v1.71. Steps: 1. Install game, Read the manual if you don't know how. 2. Update to v1.40: http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._140_Patch.exe 3. Update to v1.70: http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._170_Patch.exe 4. Update to v1.71: http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/CoH/reta..._171_Patch.exe 5. Run Company of Heroes v1.71 You've already done steps 1 and 2, but if you are totally lost, uninstall the game, and perform the steps described above. |

Yup, I finally figured it out last night and installed the 3 patches. The game is now running much better, and my laptop doesn't even get as hot anymore It's an amazing game, and now it's even better! Thanks so much for your help.....I'll be a little less reluctant to ask a question now. |
