Default Sony Vaio Hardware Keys

I have a sony Vaio VGN-S360 laptop. Sony uses a propriatary startup program
to handle the screen brightness and sound hotkeys. The Windows XP driver
doesn't work and complians about the battery being low, so its obvious that
it doesn't read the information correctly in Vista. Since all sony laptops
use this system, I was hoping that someone else had this problem and found a
way to resolve it. Thanks.

I will assume the software to do this is running from/right after the bios?

Is that's the case, did you try to go into the bios and check if there was a
way to disable this? or look on sony's website?

Well i think thats its using a form of bios call or hook, but without the
sony utility library and the correct hotkey handler application it won't
work. In the 2.6 kernel on Ubuntu there is a module sony_acpi that handles
the hotkeys, so this is a known issue with sony requiring this library and
program, and without it or the equvilency module running it won't work.
