I work at a school and we are using a network with a server running Server
2003, so far it has been easy to attach w2k and XP pro machines to the network; however we are looking for new computers and no one can tell me which version(s) of Vista I need to have on the workstations so that they can logon to a domain. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me. Thanks MrWatty |

All versions (Home Premium, Both Business and Ulimate) except the Home Basic
version permit joining a domain. A Business or Ultimate version may be desirable since the Home Premium does not provide "Complete PC Backup", only file/data backup. "MrWatty" wrote in message ... Only the Business and Ultimate copies can join a domain if you're buying
retail versions of Vista. Enterprise can also but this version is only available through a volume license agreement. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * NEW! Richard Harper is correct. I have connected Business, Ultimate and
Enterprise to Windows 2003 r2 SP2 Domains without any difficuly. Both Home SKUs, Basic and Premium are not designed to be Domain connected. Which SKU you choose depends on what features you want/need. For most purposes the Business SKU will be just fine. If the computer is a laptop and BitLocker drive encryption is vital, then Ultimate or Enterprise are the choices. Ultimate has every feature of every version of Vista, which is why it is 'Ultimate" but it may be more than you need. Enterprise is only available to Software Assurance customers; which you may or may not be. John Baker |
