Default Customize folder - Apply to all sub folders does NOT work.

If I open up windows explorer and go to the folder I keep all my photos in,
"D:\1 PICS"
and I right click on it and choose properties, then customize, I choose the
"Pictures and Videos" template. Then I click the checkbox that says "Also
apply this template to all subfolders" Then I hit ok.
I open the folder and there I have many different folders containing photos.
Now if I open up the subfolders, half of them show up in the "Large Icons"
View which is great, but the other half show up in the Details view.
So obviously the "apply to all subfolders" checkbox doesn't work. I tested
something else out by customizing the parent folder "D:\1 PICS" and assigning
a custom icon to it. Then every time I customize one of its subfolders and
turn them into a Pictures and Video template they acquire the same custom
icon as the parent folder. But still I have to go to each individual
subfolder and set them to pics and video templates. I have hundreds of
picture folders. There must be a way to get the "Also apply this template to
all subfolders" checkbox to work properly.

I know many other people have this problem, if anyone can please help out it
would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. I'm pretty sure every time I reset my computer, even the folders i
customized as picture and video in the D:\1 PICS folder revert back to
DETAILS view.

I just checked, and if I close windows explorer and re-open it, it has
forgotten ALL the customized settings I applied to the folders. So if i
change the template of one of the subfolders in my D:/1 pics folder to
pictures and videos and save it. If i close explorer and go back to it, it's
set to "details" again. I don't even need to reset the machine for it to
forget.

Hi Ab,

To get Vista to remember all of your settings, do all of "Method Two"
he

For some helpful information on folder templates and how to apply your
changes to all folders with the same template and/or subfolders see:

This should help you out,

Brink,
Thank you very, very much for your help. I deleted the registry keys and it
worked out great! Now if I can just figure out why my task scheduler
interrupts the shut down sequence when i try to turn my computer off I'll be
set =)

Your welcome Ab,

Glad to hear it helped, and thank you for the feedback.

For your task scheduler:

I would check in Task Manager under the "Proccesses" tab and click
"Show proccesses from all users" before you shutdown to see what is
running. Then check in task scheduler with what is running and see what
the settings are for it. You will just have to narrow it down. If your
not sure which one is causing it, then you can click "End Process" in
Task Manager for the one you think it might be for a test before
shutdown. If it messes things up, then just reboot to correct the
problem.

Good luck,
Shawn

Hi Jeff,

What did not work for you? What were you wanting?

For now:
Doing method two just resets all of the folder view settings and
automatic folder template discovery, so Vista will remember your
settings again.

You will still need to set the Explorer folder views and templates the
way you want them.
