Default screen

My old 17" monitor displays the screen squashed in centre with 2 black
stripes around it...
I tried changing resolution and scanning for hw changes.... any suggestions
pls?

Have you tried adjusting the horizontal/vertical display size on the
monitor?

Try changing the monitor's refresh rate.
It will be set to a default of 60Hz, but you probably used to run it at a
higher rate.
