Hello
I have a Sony desktop with Soundmax intergrated digital audio. I get no
sound after upgrading from Vista beta 2 toRelease Candidate 1. It worked well
before. In the device manager I get an error code and message that states
This device cannot stare (code 10). Thanks in advance.

I suggest that you check for an update to the BIOS on your MOBO.

Check with Sony for Vista compatibility.
Working in an earlier build is no guarantee it will work in a later build
since substandard drivers may be removed from Vista.

I have a Compaq laptop with SoundMAX integrated audio and I had the same
problem! As soon as I started Microsoft Update it downloaded Defender
updates... BUT when I clicked the link to show AVAILABLE downloads, low and
behold there was the latest driver for the SoundMAX... it doesn't download
"optional" updates by default! One mouse-click later it was up and running!
