Default WebDAV-Redirector/WebClient-Service: Error Messages, Upload issues

Hello everyone,

I keep getting (seemingly random) error messages when trying to upload files
to an IIS 6.0 (Windows Server 2003) Server using WebDAV.

When I copy a file from my local harddrive (say C:\test.doc) using Explorer
to the WebDAV-Server (say https://www.jura.uni-duesseldorf.de/dav/noack) I
sometimes (not really depending on any reliable scheme) get a window
informing me that Windows "cannot read from the source file or disk" and
giving me the choice to "Try again" or "Cancel".

The Event Log shows me that WebClient reported Event ID 14904 or Event ID
14903 (one of them at again seeming random occurences) - yet the Online Help
does not have any information on that issue.

At first glance it seemed to be the issue mentioned in KB900900
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900900) yet it is not - as I am trying to
upload (not download) a file and the size is far lower (300 KB).
Furthermore, I am able to upload larger files - it is only some files that
cause the error message to appear.

Another explanation would be a local hardware or software error. However,
copying files locally works wrong and the same issues arise on a different
computer and even when dialling in from a different network.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Michael Beurskens

Am uploading a 113KB Word 2003 document to Windows Server 2003 WebDAV
and get these errors. Same file using XP works fine. If I save the
file as Word 2007 (.docx), copy works. Saving again as 2003 version,
and then trying to copy, fails.

The file that was not copying was a Word 2003 doc saved in Word 2007.
There are two options in Word 2007 for saving in Word 2003 format, one
named "97-2003 Word Document (*.doc)" and another named "97-2003 Word
(*.doc)". When saving using the latter, the file size was much larger
but it did copy OK. I realize that the root problem may have nothing to
do with this, but thought I'd share anyway.
