Default Sharing Printer Problems

When trying to add a network printer on my home wi-fi network, the following
happens. I have three computers on the network, 1. Laptop running XP Home
with an HP 1200 printer attached thru a USB port; 2. Desktop running 98SE
with a HP 610 printer connected to LPT1; 3. A laptop running Vista with no
printer attached. Both the printers are set to share and given a name. All
three computers are assigned to workgroup "Home." From the XP machine, I
can print to either printer. From the 98SE, when trying to add the other
printer, it prompts me for a password. None of the systems have been set up
to require a password for any use except to access internet sites. The
wi-fi system is a Linksys WRT54G. I can ping each of the machines from any
machine. The firewalls are set to accept file and print sharing. This
question will only address the adding a printer to the Vista machine. I
have read several of the posts to this group as well as print sharing sites
from Microsoft. I apologize for this post being so verbose, but I feel it
is necessary.

A. When trying to add the printer on XP machine to the Vista machine:
From the network window, which shows the other two machines and the wi-fi
network, when I click on 'Add a printer' then on 'Add a Network or .' the
add printer window shows the HP 610 on the 98SE machine but nothing for the
XP machine. I click on 'The printer that I want isn't listed' so I enter
the name \\xp\hp1200 and click next. A dialog box appears stating
'Connecting to hp122 on XP machine.' Then an error dialog box stating
'Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is
no running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server
machine.' The print spooler is set to start printing immediately and I have
restarted the machine.

B. When trying to add the printer on the 98SE machine:
As stated above, the printer on the 98SE machine is shown on the add window.
When I select the printer, and click the 'Next' button, I get a dialog box
stating 'Connecting to HP610 on 98SE' which results in the error dialog box
stating 'Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be
completed (error 0x0000866).
