ATI Video Driver Problem / AMD X2 Workaround (works on RC2)
I do not know if this has been posted but if you have an AMD X2 (Gigabyte
K8U-939 mobo) and an ATI Video Card (Radeon 9600), you may find after installing Vista the driver will not load (Code 43 in Device Manager). A workaround is to download a freeware utility called EasyBCD to force Vista to use ONE CPU. After this change your video drivers will load. If anyone has an answer on how to fix this properly I would appreciate it. |

Did you still have the 43 problem after upgrading to R2?
You can also probably just change a setting in your BIOS to disable one of the CPUs withoug haveing to use a utility from a a 3rd party. My BIOS does not support that and I dont think that is supported in general
in hardware. The utility I used is a GUI which makes documented changes to the BOOT.INI. I could have done it manually but this way is simpler and less dangerous. Also, I am already running RC2 and its a clean install not upgrade. "JW" wrote: Did you still have the 43 problem after upgrading to R2? ATI Video Driver Problem / AMD X2 Workaround (works on RC2)
Okay, that worked (finally aero is working and vista recognizes my
videocard). But any time I click on a windows item such as 'activate windows', I get a garbled screen, ctrl-alt-del will bring it back. Using RC 1.5, will uprade to rc2 and try it. Thanks for the solution. |

Have the same problem here, works fine until I go to either install something or run a game but in my case pushing any key on my keyboard brings the screen back. |
