Default Firewire not recognizing Panasonic DV camera

I have a Panasonic PV-DV53 mini DV Palmcorder comera and cannot get it
recognized under Windows Vista Home Basic. It comes in as an unknown device
and cannot find drivers. I have an Acer Aspire AST180-UA350B PC with 1.5 GIG
of Ram and a built in 1394 (Firewire) Port. I am current with Vista update
patches and have checked the Panasonic website for drivers, there are none
present at this time. I also sent an email request to their Tech Support for
suggestions. Will this be fixed in a Vista Service Pack or sooner?

Here's the fix .... 'Windows Vista does not enumerate an IEEE 1394a
device that you connect to the computer'

When you connect an IEEE 1394a device to a computer that is running
Windows Vista, Windows Vista does not enumerate the device. However, if
you connect the same device to a computer that is running Microsoft
Windows XP, Windows XP enumerates the device successfully.

*Note* An IEEE 1394a device may also be referred to as a FireWire
device.
