Linksys WMP54G NIC and Connectivity Issues With Broadcom Driver
I wanted to post some of my testing results with my Linksys WMP54G wireless
NIC dropping connection to my WRT54G router. I have been playing with the "Advanced" properties of the Broadcom driver that Vista loads as Linksys does not have any Vista compatible software available for use. I used the Broadcom drivers default settings for about a week and was getting connection drops several times a day. I finally found a way to make the connection a little more stable by manually changing the "Rate" setting. I have been trying different rates and backing down the value one at a time to see if it helps. I found that slowing down the rate has helped my situation and now have the "Rate" set at 18mbps. I noticed that each time I backed the value down my connection would remain stable although I still get the occasional drop. At 18mbps it seems to only happen once or twice a day (latency is less ?). This was the only *really* frustrating thing about my Vista experience and if the connection remains as stable as it is now, I may even purchase a copy when required to by Microsoft. To tell you the truth, I was about to reload my XP Pro copy just due to this nascence. I have remained stable now for the past two days and will certainly give another report after having more time to test. I hope this helps others out there that may be having the same issue. Chris |

Linksys WMP54G NIC and Connectivity Issues With Broadcom Driver
My network connection is now behaving nicely with the "Rate" set at 18mbps.
It is slower but I'll take that over drops any day. I cannot tell much difference and I do watch on-line video at YouTube and Google so I am happy. I guess if I had to transfer a lot of files between systems, I might be less happy, but for now, it is fine. I hope that someone found my first post of use and hope that Linksys comes out with an updated driver for Vista. I sure would like to have 54mbps back but again, but it has not been a real issue at this point. Hope I helped somebody else with this problem. Chris "Chris" wrote in message ...
